This week at the Academy Sophomores in Chemistry classes took to the field to learn about pressure. Specifically, air pressure!
Students conducted a hands on experiment in teams where they needed to use a syringe to fill up a a long length of tube, which they then clamped in place to secure the end of plastic. Then they worked to climb up to the top of Kottmeyer Stadium, once they arrived they saw that despite gravity the water in the tubes was held in place using air pressure.
Students returned to class to discuss the specifics of air pressure and how it can impact different states of matter.
