Today is the first Advisory period of the year. For those of you that don’t know, Advisory is a time to focus on non-curricular needs such as time management and mental wellness. The freshmen class started the year by reconnecting with the upperclassmen orientation leaders they met in August. The OL’s led discussions on how the first few days have been and what needs have they identified. Time was also spent organizing their work for the next week until the next Advisory Period. Upcoming Advisory periods will include activities on stress relief, team building, and grade level unity. A big thank you goes out to the upperclassmen OL’s, Mrs. Austin, and Mr. Namerow who offered their time to help the freshmen start the year off right.
The sophomores start off the year with a team building activity. Laptops and books were put away for thirty minutes to carry out a 200 person Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament. The twist to this tournament is as you lost to a classmate you then became a cheerleader for your opponent. Congratulations to Colin McCook for winning the first RPS tourney!
For juniors and seniors, this time is set aside for them to complete whatever projects they currently have. For many seniors, time was spent working on Extended Essays and CAS reflections. For some students, this was a time to take a break from the rigors of the IB Diploma Program and create something new in our makerspace.
