This week at the Academy, Freshmen classes took the halls and the collaboration rooms and any space they could find to begin work on their Shakespeare projects. All Freshmen students across the district read the play, however, the project here has a special STEM/IB connection.
The emphasis at the Academy is placed on understanding the text to inform performance. Meaning the students will eventually perform their scenes! But why perform a play? As our students are working on their line by line understanding of their scenes they attempt to understand the motivations of the characters and why they would say what they say.
The result? Students develop an in depth understanding of the characters and their motivations which are then shared with their classes. Ultimately, their new understanding will be put to the test on an upcoming timed writing.
