This week Sophomores, at the Academy had the opportunity to participate in the second annual Comcast Play-a-thon. The event focuses on ideation, the process of brainstorming and taking existing tools and using them in new and inventive ways.
Students were assigned into random teams, which then had ten minute sessions with six new and cutting edge technologies just breaking into the marketplace. The technology ranged from makey makey which turns everyday objects into computer peripherals, to sphereo balls and Occulus Rift virtual tools.
Following their learning and hands on exploring of the technology students were asked in their teams to develop a 2 minute pitch of a new way to apply these technologies. The ideas were presented to their peers and comcast employees, before a crowdsourced voting format was used to determine which group had the best pitches. The winning teams from each of the sessions will be attending Comcast’s own in house version of the ideation fair this spring.
