STEM takes Second at State Qualifiers!

Congratulations to the STEM Academy Team who competed at the 1st Annual PA Governors State STEM Competition. The STEM team consisted of Sophomores Karthik Imayavaramban,Saranya SampathManish Hari Suryapalam, and Brandon Barker led by teacher mentor Mr. Eric Brown.

The team competed in three categories including working with a local company to solve a STEM related issue. Their choice? Purifying frakking water. The team designed and built a prototype of a filtration device to work with the chemicals associated with frakking.

Perhaps the team’s greatest moment came in the final phase of the competition where they worked through a challenge of building a device to protect an egg from an eight foot drop. Despite lightly cracking their egg in the design phase the team was able to persevere as a team and ultimately were awarded Second Place for their total efforts. Congratulations to all involved for all of their hard work!
