Today Mrs. Cole’s Algebra II class began the unit on Quadratics in an Inquiry style. Rather than starting with the equation, students studied an example of a parabolic trajectory using the popular game, Angry Birds. Students used a video of a few launches of different trajectories, then brainstormed math questions such as:
How does the angle affect the trajectory? What does the equation look like? How does the launch speed affect the landing point?
Students were then asked to analyze a screenshot of the launches and plot the correct trajectory using their graphing calculators. Very interesting!
